Doping Health and Sports

This is to please one of my readers!

Brigitte McMahon Huber (born March 25, 1967 in Baar) is an athlete from Switzerland, who competed in triathlon.

McMahon competed at the first Olympic triathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She won the gold medal with a total time of 2:00:40.52, which is still (as of 2005) the fastest time for a female in an Olympic triathlon. Her split times were 19:44.58 for the swim, 1:05:42.30 for the cycling and 0:35:13.64 for the run.

Huber competed at the second Olympic triathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing tenth with a total time of 2:07:07.73.

McMahon tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) doping during a competition in June 2005, though she maintains that she did not begin doping until well after the 2000 Sydney Olympics where she won her gold medal. She was immediately removed from the Swiss national team and was facing a two-year ban from triathlon when she retired.

n sports, doping refers to the use of performance-enhancing drugs, particularly those forbidden by organizations that regulate competitions. Another form of doping is blood doping, either by blood transfusion or use of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO). Also considered “doping” by many is the use of substances that mask other forms of doping.[citation needed]

Doping is considered unethical by most international sports organizations and especially the International Olympic Committee. The reasons are mainly the health threat of performance-enhancing drugs, the equality of opportunity of the athletes and the exemplary effect of “clean” (doping-free) sports in the public.

This entry concerns the doping of humans. In horses races, polo, and greyhound racing, horses and greyhounds can also be doped.

Victoria’s Secretsssss

The way things used to be, buying lingerie for your lady meant a ghastly trip to the department store where derisive stares made you feel like a deviant in the grips of a perverse panty fetish. This humiliation was the impetus for a guy-friendly place where getting your lady something sexy was met with encouragement, not a raised eyebrow. This is the place we call Victoria’s Secret.

Although intimately associated with its sexy lingerie, today the retailer actually sells a wide range of women’s wear and beauty supplies. It has 1,003 stores in operation, and each year it puts 400 million copies of its famed catalog through the mail. In 2006, sales reached the $5-billion mark, and its parent company, Limited Brands, hopes to double that figure by 2010 (we’re rooting for them; when Victoria’s Secret wins, we all win).

Modeling for any of the company’s collections is considered prestigious, but its Angels are a cut above the rest. Past and present Angels include such well-known names as Tyra Banks, Adriana Lima, Rebecca Romijn, Gisele Bundchen, Helena Christensen, and Stephanie Seymour, and it is without question the most coveted modeling job in the industry.

Here are five things you didn’t know about the only company in the world with the celestial seal of approval: Victoria’s Secret.

1- Its founder jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge

Tired of the humiliation involved in trying to buy lingerie, Roy Raymund created Victoria’s Secret in 1977 by putting the first store at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California. After opening a few other stores and launching the mail-order catalog, Raymond sold the company to Limited Brands in 1982 for a sizable paycheck.

By 1993, Limited made Victoria’s Secret a nationally recognized brand, while Raymond’s most recent business venture had ended in bankruptcy. He was last seen alive walking toward the Golden Gate Bridge, and shortly thereafter his body washed up on the shores of Marin County. Investigators concluded he’d committed suicide by leaping off the bridge.

2- It is named after a notorious prude

So who is Victoria? Since the first stores were designed to resemble Victorian boudoirs, the company’s namesake is England’s long-reigning 19th-century monarch, Queen Victoria. She and husband Prince Albert played “hide the scepter” enough times to produce nine children before his unexpected death in 1861 threw her into a state of profound mourning that lasted until her own death 40 years later.

Despite this climate, fashions of the day included the corset, a sexually charged garment that embellished a woman’s curves above and below the waist. So what, then, was the Queen’s secret? Was she a royal horndog? Did she love a carriage quickie? Was the prim former princess a party-girl, always shouting for Prince Albert to get out of the can and into her Very Sexy chiffon bloomers? We’ll never know. I suppose that’s why it’s a secret.

3- It regularly denies celebrity requests to model

Ed Razek, the company’s chief marketing officer, was quoted recently in a Forbes article stating that each month he has to turn down a number of requests from high-profile female celebrities desperate to be an honorary Angel.

The Angels are not a desperate bunch, however. In fact, they are products of an intense and extensive program designed to make each of them media-savvy celebrities. But that isn’t the only reason this commercial icon with a fresh star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame does not take requests. Another reason is Modeling 101: While the seraphic beauties in Angel garb typically stand around 5’ 9” or so, most Hollywood celebs fall more than a couple inches short, even if standing in a pair of Miss Sixty Side Button boots.

4- Its Angels are chosen based on their appeal to women, not men

Women make up the majority of the company’s executives — they represent two-thirds of those tuning in to their fashion shows, and they account for a whopping 98% of the company’s customer base. This is their audience, plain and simple. It’s no coincidence that two of the most high-profile Angels in its short history are women other women don’t, as a rule, dislike: Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum. Both are charming and down-to-earth models who aren’t bitchy about their beauty (perhaps this is why Naomi Cambell has never, in any sense of the term, been an Angel).

We men aren’t entirely disregarded, but according to Ed Razek, Victoria’s Secret doesn’t “do salacious shots that women would not like.” It should be easy to tell if this paradigm ever changes: Future fashion shows will be on pay-per-view and many of us will recognize a few of the models from online porn.

5- It provokes numerous FCC complaints every year

Now in its seventh year, the televised Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show enjoys a devoted fan base, but its most dutiful viewers can probably be found among a loose confederacy of conservative tight-asses. Operating under such vague catch-all names as the American Family Association, these groups annually flood the FCC with complaints about how the show is indecent or obscene.

In determining what is obscene, the FCC juggles three statutes: Title 18 of the U.S . Code (Section 1464, concerning what goes over the air-waves), obscenity as defined by the U.S. Supreme Court (written to cover hardcore pornography) and basic First Amendment rights. As a result, it places more restrictive standards on TV shows that run between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

This year’s fashion show was broadcast at 10 p.m. on both coasts, but at 9 p.m. in the central and mountain time zones. The Parents Television Council (PTC) reacted strongly, saying that families in these times zones “had to scramble to find their remote to keep their children from accidentally stumbling across this televised peep show.” (The PTC’s credibility regarding this frantic scenario is suspect; once, they freaked out about some “briefly depicted buttocks” on the cartoon King of the Hill.)

The show’s 2007 ratings were up from last year, but have otherwise been slipping ever since it first premiered. Seizing on this, in 2002 Concerned Women for America — their granny panties evidently in a bunch — wrote that since the broadcast had placed third in the ratings, “maybe even CBS will get the message; we’re sick of mindless TV.”

If this was the message, someone definitely did not get it: One of the shows with better ratings that night was The Bachelor.

so there you have it more secrets victoria didnt tell us!!!

I found this very interesting health related article I hope it is of good use to you all …enjoy!

What are GMO foods?

GMO foods are made from genetically modified organisms, usually plants. The plants have altered genes and thus attributes that make them easier to farm. Some can resist pests better than natural varieties. Others don’t mind chemical insecticides and most can out-grow and out-produce their natural cousins.

The first GMO was a tomato plant, grown by the California company Calgene in 1994. It produced rot-resistant tomatoes dubbed Flavr Savrs. These mutated tomatoes were much more expensive than regular tomatoes and were usurped by conventional varieties. Today, many crops have been genetically modified, including soybeans, corn, cotton, and canola. Most GMO crops are grown in North America, specifically the U.S.

Keep in mind, however, that humans have been genetically modifying their crops for a millennium through selective breeding. The main difference is technique. GM crops are modified by direct manipulation of the plants DNA. Old-fashioned crops are modified the old-fashioned way, by breeding.

Why make GMOs?

The down and dirty answer is quite simply: Profits. Farming is tough. A blight or pest invasion can devastate a years’ work in no time and wipe out an entire farm altogether. This uncertainty makes farming a bad investment. Bad investments and poor profits make corporations and consumers unhappy. GMO crops can be more resistant to the slings and arrows of life, bringing much-needed stability to farming. They can also increase output, which leads to lower prices and more satiated vegetarians (or humans, for that matter). Hence, big agribusinesses have dumped a lot of money and time into GMO crops. But that’s just one side of the story. Many scientists say that GMO crops have the potential to solve the world’s hunger problems as well.

Are GMOs safe?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other governmental agencies say yes. Each has its own thorough and bureaucratic methods for ensuring complete safety in foods. And for the most part, they work. In 1999, however, a Scottish biochemist allegedly found evidence that GMO potatoes were toxic to rats. His findings were later debunked and he was suspended from his research institute for releasing the bogus info. Nonetheless, his announcement sparked turmoil in Europe over GM crops. Many Europeans simply refused to accept foods made from GM crops or animals. Today the modified crops are rare in Europe and many North American consumers (and scientists) believe that the FDA’s safety procedures are too lax. They point to big agribusinesses, who have a big influence on American politics and the FDA. So the real answer to this question is — probably, but there’s always a risk.

Since jeans are worn so often and they take quite a daily beating, it’s not wise to invest $500 in every pair of jeans purchased. On the other hand, because jeans are worn on a regular basis, don’t balk at shelling out a bit of cash for at least one or two pairs of timeless designer jeans, especially since you’d spend three times as much on a suit you might only wear twice a year.

Mixing up your regular-priced jeans with a couple of timeless designer jeans will increase the versatility of your wardrobe and make you look like you spend more on your threads than you actually do. There’s just one caveat to heed when buying expensive denim: Avoid trends. It’s completely absurd to drop big bucks on a pair of jeans so trendy they’ll look ridiculously dated in a year’s time.

Choose your timeless designer jeans from among these labels, and the amount of wear you get out of them will more than justify your investment.

Gucci

It’s hard to get any more suave than Gucci, and these timeless designer jeans are a gorgeous example of what those clever Italian designers are capable of creating. Beautifully cut with a straight leg and a classic medium wash, these are faded just the right amount, and the 10-and-a-half-inch rise means that they’ll sit perfectly on your body — not too high and not too low. Of course, the Gucci label is imprinted on a leather patch on the back and all the rivets are engraved with the name of the renowned fashion house. All these features ensure that these jeans will look great on nearly everybody in addition to being completely appropriate for any occasion, save the most formal.

Paul Smith jeans - PaulSmith.co.uk

Paul Smith

Made exclusively in Japan from hot British designer Paul Smith and woven on an antique loom, these jeans have an irregular finish that will become super comfortable over time. The dark, natural indigo color will match all your casual and dress shirts and will mellow with a lot of wear to yield a lovely patina. A five-pocket, straight-leg fit means they are great for pairing with pretty much any shoe.

Cristiano Ronaldo,

Arguably the most famous soccer player in the world after David Beckham, needs to clean his act up. Or he’s gonna start losing endorsement deals!

The Manchester United star paid a recent visit to Rome. During his stay there, it’s being reported, he hooked up with two hookers.

Can you go to Hookers Anonymous?

Just this past September, Ronnie invited five hookers to his home for an orgy with some teammates. And the call girls took pics!

Old habits die hard.

Britney Spears
She was wearing different clothes earlier in the day, but after an outfit change Friday afternoon, Britney and her paparazzo boyfriend went shopping for cars at the Mercedes dealership in the Valley.

Of note: Spears is wearing the same dress she wore to her wedding reception when she got married to Kevin Federline.

Is she trying to tell us something????

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden welcomed a little girl on Friday. Perfect for Nicole. She can spoil her little princess!

The new arrival’s name is Harlow Winter Kate Madden

“The beautiful healthy baby girl left the hospital with her ecstatic parents,” Nicole’s publicist says.
